Established in 1986 by a group of passionate life insurance underwriters and claims professionals, the Australasian Life Underwriting Claims Association Ltd. (ALUCA) are a proudly member-owned and member-run incorporated industry member association.
We operate within the much larger insurance industry, but are solely dedicated to supporting the distinct needs, issues and opportunities of life insurance professionals. As the winds of regulatory and corporate change pound the life insurance industry, we remain steadfastly committed to our members.
Our historic objective of connecting peers across life insurance holds true today, and we live by our three core values:
- Educate
- Develop
- Connect
Structure
ALUCA is a not for profit industry member association. It is an incorporated association and as such is bound by rules. A copy of the current rules can be found in the Members Centre with the current Code of Conduct.
ALUCA is governed by the Board and its Management who are appointed under the terms specified in the company’s Constitution and appointed by ALUCA members.
ALUCA’s Board sets the strategic direction and work of ALUCA. In addition to the Board, ALUCA has a Chief Executive Officer and Secretariat Officer as well as State volunteer sub-groups and special interest committees and working parties.
Under ALUCA’s constitution there are 9 Board members elected by ALUCA members. The new staggered Board term of office (3 Board member positions will become available at each AGM) will ensure greater continuity and succession planning of Board positions whilst providing for new Board role positions in a more controlled manner. This will set both ALUCA and our Board on a very secure footing for the future.

Subgroups
ALUCA’s subgroups are at the heart of what we deliver. Each group:
- Provides networking opportunities with peers who either share a location (NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, and WA) or a professional specialty (claims, rehabilitation, medical)
- Develops and delivers educational and development events on topics which are important to their members
- Operates within our charter, reporting through to the Board to ensure they are aligned and contribute to the overall strategic direction of ALUCA
